Poems | Short Stories | England | Staffordshire | East Anglia | Northern Ireland | Currently compiling my debut collection inspired by Needwood Forest.
Now living in the Cotswolds, I grew up in Staffordshire and East Anglia, England. I have only recently returned to writing after a two-decade trial separation from the muse. I am currently compiling my first collection, ‘The Needwood Poems’, inspired by memories of my childhood in the ancient Needwood Forest, most of which fell to the encloser’s axe in the nineteenth century.
I have had work published by Indigo Dreams, Talking Soup and Elliott & Thompson. I was also shortlisted for the role of Staffordshire Poet Laureate for 2015-17.
I also write extremely immature nonsense verse for my two sons, aged four and two, and the occasional short story.
What I think you should think….
Poetry is emotion. It is love, longing, beauty, desire, joy, regret and reminiscence. It should not be easy, either in the writing or the reading. It should present the reader with acute but abstruse observations of the commonplace; the things we are so accustomed to seeing and feeling that we often fail to appreciate them on any level beyond the prosaic. It should shift perspective in order to bring the subject into sharper focus. It should perplex and delight in equal measure.
Lovely to meet you Julian. Please feel free to visit my poetry blog when you have a moment or two. 🙂

Thanks for following my blog. I really enjoyed reading your poetry and like what you say about celebrating the commonplace things. I think these are the things we sometimes fail to realise how much we care about until they are gone.
